Ministries and Opportunities
In addition
to our regular worship gathering, Queen Anne Presbyterian Church
offers many opportunities for participation. Wherever your
interests or talents lie, we value them.

The News from QAPC (formerly known as "The Quickener") Newsletter
Our
longest-running outreach program at QAPC, it was started 10 years
ago by the late Pat Nordlund. The program offers hot meals to some
40 local seniors every Friday at noon. We have a rotating crew of
volunteer cooks, and can always find room for more “chefs!” In
addition to the meals, our seniors are treated to after-lunch
entertainment and speakers; and, they all enjoy before-lunch
fellowship. It is truly a tightknit community where members look
out for one another and always notice when someone is absent. We
welcome new seniors to our gathering and new faces to our volunteer
crew of support staff. The
Gathering meets year-round on Fridays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Interfaith Hospitality Network of Seattle
The
Interfaith Hospitality Network of Seattle
is a group of thirteen, local-area churches banded together to
provide temporary housing for families in need. QAPC is partnered
with First Free Methodist Church to host the families one week every
three months. QAPC provides the space, while together we provide
the volunteers to set up the beds, spend the nights with our guests,
and cook evening meals each night of the week. It is a very
rewarding experience, in many ways, for both the guests and the
volunteers.

Our choir
rehearses after worship once a month as well as at 9:45 on the Sunday mornings
we sing. All voices are welcome. Our handbell choir rehearses weekly. This
choir is always open to teaching new people the wonderful ministry of playing
the handbells.

The Presbyterian Church of Nkon-Ngi [Makak, Cameroon]
In 1999, two pastors, one African, the other American, started a correspondence encouraged by a mutual acquaintance. Those initial letters grew into a sister-church relationship between the Presbyterian Church of Nkon-Ngi in Makak, Cameroon and the Queen Anne Presbyterian Church in Seattle. Through the years we have prayed for each other, dialogued with each other over questions of theology and practice, and assisted one another in service and mission.
One of the most tangible results of the partnership has been collaboration on an economic venture for the church in Cameroon. Several years ago the church in Cameroon began making beaded jewelry and sending it to Queen Anne Presbyterian Church. We would sell the items and send the full proceeds back to Cameroon. The Church of Nkon-Ngi then bought and planted palms that are pressed for oil. The palm oil is used by the congregation members and sold for income. Two years ago, Queen Anne bought a gas-powered, palm-pressing machine to help increase productivity. The church in Cameroon has taken the proceeds from this venture and formed an economic organization given official status by the government that will provide significant help to the entire region in which they live.
This has strengthened our ties with the worldwide community.

We
host Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and a Girl Scout troop. We are also involved
in occasional one-time outreach events, such as our Celtic Evening Song concert
service, our upcoming Centennial celebrations, and our annual adopt-a-family
Christmas drive. We also
support the Queen Anne Food Bank,
Queen Anne Helpline, and the
Church of Mary
Magdalene.

Once a month we have a
special time to gather together in corporate prayer—The
Prayer Meeting.
Our prayer chain also focuses on the prayer requests of the members of our
congregation at all times. Both daytime and evening calling lists have been set
up to accommodate most schedules.

Excellent social opportunities are found in our regular coffee hour
immediately following the worship service, through our potluck
dinners held throughout the year, and our church picnic held each
summer. A particular highlight for the congregation is the Pool
Party held at the end of summer at the Pop Mounger Pool. These are
just some of the many ways to be involved at
Queen Anne Presbyterian Church.
